Car Dealer Blunders

Here is a list of some of our favorite car dealer blunders.

Local Dodge Dealer :

Customer asked about their new Meyer Snow Plow warranty. Dealer replied "You have a 100,000 mile warranty, just bring it back here if you have any problems." What a shame. That customer missed out on registering with Meyer for his ROC Solid 3/5 Year Warranty!

Customer went to the Dodge Dealer and need a new plow pump to replace an old inoperable E-47. What did the Dodge Dealer sell him? A H (High Lift) Model, and told him it would work fine. WRONG! The H Model is not a direct replacement. Using it on a Classic Lift frame without modifications resulted in severe damage to their brand new E-57H pump.

You can see the dent in the back of the hydraulic fluid Tank where it is hitting the Lift Frame.

On the back of the E-57H Power Unit you can see chunks of aluminum missing around the "A" Coil & Valve Assembly. You can see the paint chipped on the Lift Frame too.

The Motor was also hitting the Lift Frame. It is a surprise that the motor didn't tear off from the force.

Customer went to the same Local Dodge dealer because he needed a new Top Cap Seal (Wiper) on his E-47. Dealer sold him a new Top Cap. Customer went home and installed it. Pump filled up with water not long after, which is why he wanted to change the Top Seal (Wiper) in the first place! The Dodge Dealer didn't give / sell him a new O Ring, which is the actual seal. The Dodge Dealer also didn't tell / sell / give him the 3 Nylite washers that go under the nuts that hold the Top Cap on, and seal the holes for the studs. They also didn't suggest a new O Ring for the base of the Lift Cylinder, which MUST be replaced when removing the Top Cap for any reason.

Same Local Dodge Dealer installed an EZ Classic mount on a Dodge Ram. They used individual connectors for each headlight wire. They then wrapped the connections in about 6 feet of electrical tape. This made it VERY difficult for the customer to remove the headgear each spring. No heat shrink on the terminals, some were turning green inside.

Local Chevrolet Dealer:

Sold customer a new plow. Never registered the warranty with Meyer. "Didn't know they had to." Customer came to us for what resulted in a $400.00 repair on a plow less than a year old. It already had aftermarket repair parts on it. There were screws through the controller into the dash. The wires were ripped out of the controller, the power supply wire to the controller was hooked up to constant power, which was the problem. All the aftermarket parts did not fix it. After we chiseled off the melted A Coil, and replaced it, and the A Valve we destroyed while chiseling off the melted coil, and hooked up power to key on power, it was fine.

Same Local Chevrolet Dealer asked us to warranty a hand held controller for another customer, because it kept locking out and had to be reset. Guess they and the customer didn't read the Owners Manual, or they would have know what the problem was. The controller trouble light would "blink a few times" then the controller would have to be reset. The controller was actually blinking a trouble code. On the back of the controller is a list of how many light flashes, and what to check for the problem! The controller was NOT the problem! Now, in the ignorant dealer's defense, the customer took the plow and controller to another Meyer Dealer, who SOLD HIM a new controller!!! The Warranty was registered with Meyer, the plow was only 8 months old! The customer should not have paid for it. The Meyer Dealer should have known that there was nothing wrong with the controller! Found a cracked fuse that was arcing, that was tripping the controller. Problem solved for 15 cents.

Where to start with this one? This 05 F-350 was at the Ford dealer for intermittent operation of the plow. They checked it over, called us and wanted to know if an update/upgrade install was covered under warranty. IT was because the owner was the original owner of the Meyer E-88 Xpress. Keep in mind, this truck has never been anywhere for regular maint, and repairs except the dealer. They sent the customer to us for the upgrade under Warranty. I found the Meyer Plow Headlight Changeover Module disconnected. Customer said he had a plow light problem, and the dealer tried to fix it once before. Apparently, disconnecting the Meyer Headlight Module fixed the problem, except the customer then had no plow lights. They didn't tell him they unplugged the Meyer Headlight Module.

Here is what I found when I opened the hood. The arrow is pointing to the plow power supply harness. Dealer didn't even clean the terminals! Maybe a bad connection? Hmmmmm. Here's the other battery. Terminals nice and clean too, NOT!
Gee, maybe the PLOW CONTROLLER Power and ground wires ran along the cowl right over the top of the turbo is a problem? Nah, melted wires can't be a problem! (Note the plow installed did this, not the dealer, BUT the dealer didn't fix it either!). Again easier to do with the grille removed. This one took 8 hours to upgrade. Found more wires cut and spliced once we got into it.
