Meyer Plow Hose Information
It has gotten to the point where a page explaining Meyer Hoses is necessary. There have been many changes over the years, and on this page I hope to clarify details of the Hoses and Fittings Meyer has used over the years.
The above 21856 hose is the most common, and was used for the longest time, it was used with the ST and C Series plows, with the E-47. Meyer eliminated swivels long ago as they serve no purpose and are a source of a potential leak. They will leak, it is only a matter of time. replaced by 22144 used on E-57 and E-60 units, and eventually the E-47 as well. It is 45" long. Both ends are Male 1/4" NPT. The 21856 is rated at 2750psi working presssure and 5580psi proof pressure, and 11165psi burst pressure. It is ALL Plastic. There is no steel inside whatsoever. They (Genuine Meyer and aftermarket) all mention SAE100R7, which is a specification set by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). SAE100R7 02 Medium Pressure, Synthetic Polyester Braid Reinforced Thermoplastic Hydraulic Hose. It has a working temerature range of -40F to 212F. Because it has a Polyester braid, it is non-conductive.
The above Hose replaced the 21856. It is also 45" long, but it has no swivels. One end is Male 1/4" NPT and the other end is Female 1/4" NPT. The Female end is meant to connect to a tall or short rigid 90 degree elbow. It was used on the E-57, and E-60 and eventually on the E-47 as well. It has the same 5000psi working pressure and 20000 psi burst pressure as all other Meyer hoses (other than the 21856). It is a "2 wire" Hose. That means there are two layers of braided steel wire inside. It actually meets SAE100R16.
Keep in mind all current Meyer hydraulic units operate at 2000psi. The E-47 ran at 1650psi, the original E-60 was set at 2500psi, and the Crossover Relief Valve opens at 3800psi, so these hoses are overkill. You might also note that the 3800psi exceeds the 2750psi rating of SAE100R7 by over 1000psi.
When the E-58H first came out, it was also a replacement for the E-47, 57, and 60, so there had to be Couplers on the ends of the Hoses. Because Meyer switched to SAE O Ring seal fittings, they also came out with new low spill Couplers (which we will not really discuss here). Because there was a Male fitting on each hose end, there was no way to install them without Couplers. The Hose used for the E-58H was 22395C. The "C" stands for "Clamshell" packaging. In April 2008 Meyer announced the elimination of Couplers. IF the E-58H was going to be used on an EZ Classic (or EZ Custom) mount, then the 08206 Coupler Kit would be needed.

With the elimination of Couplers, there had to be a way to tighten the Hose ends. So rather than add a swivel of some sort, Meyer switched to Hoses that had SAE O Ring on one end, and Faceseal on the other. First used on the E-58H and EZ Plus mount, it was the 22420 which is 33" long. In 2011 it was replaced by 22461 which is 38" long. These (22460 and 22866) hoses use 22460 or 22866 Elbows at the PA Rams. they use Adapter 22868 on the PA Block end.
In the fall of 2014 Meyer switched to the E-72 as the standard unit on all straight plows. This meant new hoses. So we got the 22883, 22884, and 22885. These are Faceseal hoses on BOTH ends. They use 22868 Adapters at the hydraulic unit end, and 22866 Elbows at the PA Rams.

A list of the most common Hoses above, and below Elbows used on the E-47, 57, and 60 units.
I just want to add here it depends on who is assembling and packing the Hoses at Meyer because often there is no 22868 Adapter on the ends where there should be.
